 Blendy Dome VJ is Here...

Any Dome, No Problem...

The future of easy dome mapping has arrived! With Blendy Dome VJ you can map any dome surface on site or simulate the dome before a gig with virtual projectors using the simulated dome diameter, horizon, and tilt. Simply plug in your laptop to the projectors and start mapping your dome.

Fulldome mapping and real time domemaster slicing has never been so easy. You simply choose your dome-blueprint, map it, blend the projector outputs,  load your content and you are ready to play. You can also load your domemaster files into any  Syphon player and Blendy Dome VJ will slice, map, and blend your content perfectly using its vertical and circular soft edge blends with the “Blendy” trademark exclusive RGB-based blend positioning.

Simulate different projectors setup and navigate in your 3D dome just like a video game. Drag-and-drop your content into Blendy Dome VJ and check how it looks in a virtual dome. It is also an exelent previsualization tool for your fulldome creations. It allows content producers to try out their productions on the go.
It supports various video formats and Syphon….

FULLDOME.UK 2014

FULLDOME UK! Is a not-for-profit association supporting artists and researchers working within Fulldome Immersive Environments.

They organize events with the goal to promote Fulldome as an artistic medium in its own right, and as a platform for research into data visualisation, group collaboration and the effects of immersive environments on our perceptual and cognitive processes.

For its fourth year as the UK’s leading fulldome festival, Fulldome UK returns to the National Space Centre for two days of inspirational screenings and events for everyone to enjoy. Two years in the making, this years festival will have a jam-packed programme of immersive films, live VJ performances, radical debates and forward thinking visions in sound and image
Fulldome.Uk sees the Fulldome context as a rich site for development of new material that will satisfy the demand of audiences across Europe today for multisensory, participatory, immersive content that moves beyond the notion of the ‘screen’ into the idea of ‘environment’ which can be appropriate in both educational and entertainment contexts. There is now an increasing acknowledgement worldwide of how 3D experiences may change and enhance visual and aural perception though understanding of the reasons for this are unclear and our proposed programme of work can offer ways of growing understanding through experiment and cultural/intergenerational exchange.

FULLDOME.UK will be featuring

Screenings of fulldome films, A short film festival, Realtime/VJ performances, Talks and discussions

Freedom 360 Fulldome Camera

Someone had to do it. The Freedom 360 Go Pro rig is an awesome push for the fulldome medium. It makes it easy for any film producer to compose live_real content intended for an immersive envoronment. Here is a video that explains it all from Matthew Mascheri. Also here is some info from their site "The Freedom 360 allows you to use (your own) six Hero3 cameras (white, silver or black) to record six videos that can be stitched into a full spherical, equi-rectangular 360 video. The original and innovative geometry gives you the freedom to hold the rig in any direction, no blind spot to worry about. You can capture everything around the rig, without obstructions.
Simply insert the Hero3 cameras (6) into the appropriate slot, fix them in place with the numbered mounting braces, mount it to the support you are intending to use (i.e. monopod), and start recording with the wifi remote that comes with the Hero3 black, or purchase it separately with the Hero3 silver/white.
 Recommended accessories
  • Carbon-Fiber monopod (15-20mm tube diameter on the (thin) camera end, light stand, microphone stand, boom pole or similar rigging.
  • Mini tabletop tripod (acts as a stand for the carbon-fiber pole)
  • Super clamp (suspend the carbon-fiber monopod from the ceiling)
  • Counter weights (1.5-2.5kg), depending on your shooting requirements
  • Motion-stabilizing gyro (i.e. http://www.ken-lab.com/what-s-new/new-x-series-3-axis-gyros)
  • 5x conversion kit (if you prefer to shoot 4-around, 1-up)
So i say it's time to put on ur thinking mustache film industry... Who's the next Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone, Kevin Smith, or Guy Richie of Digital Dome Theater?

This is one giant step for fulldome....

FDDB is an exciting and friendly resource for people who are passionate about fulldome medium.
Their mission is to spread fulldome awareness and help incite fulldome innovation while focusing on content. It's for everyone interested in the fulldome medium: planetarians, science center & museum operators, private companies, independent filmmakers, students…. you name it!
Anyone can join FDDB: it’s a great way to connect with the fulldome community. They are strongly committed to put no limits in front of creativity, passion and quality: institutions, planetariums, private companies, independent filmmakers, students… anyone can add content to FDDB.

This Idea came about because when (back in March 2011) a crazy Italian planetarian attended the Fulldome UK festival in Birmingham, England (which was also his first-ever international event). He was astounded to meet so many people interested in the fulldome medium and was delighted to encounter others who shared his view that domes are now able to transcend astronomy- related topics – inspiring and communicating in whole new ways.
All attendees left Fulldome UK 2011 with one question in mind: “What can each of us do to help grow fulldome interest and fulldome audiences?”
FDDB – The Fulldome Database was this Italian planetarian’s answer and consequently everyone lived happily ever after.

BASECAMP SUMMIT SERIES

This was an awesome project i worked on for Discovery Channel and Elevate In Feb 2012 at Lake Tahoe, CA. One of my Favorite gigs to date. Basically because the cool kids got to take over the dome... lol Summit Series was proud to announce Summit Basecamp. Inspiration at altitude. A three day TED-meets-Burning-Man summer camp for grownups in the mountains of Lake Tahoe: Summit Basecamp. To call Summit Series events "conferences" would be to do them a tremendous injustice. They bring together mostly under-35-year-old movers and shakers -- from artists like filmmaker Jonathan Segal; to entrepreneurs like Yes To founder Ido Leffler; to changemakers like Lulan Artisans visionary Eve Blossom.

Over the past four years, Summit Series has strived to create inspiring events that foster collaboration and creativity. This year, deep in the snow covered mountains around Lake Tahoe, 650 leaders in business, philanthropy, science, technology and the arts will convene for four days. Attendees will chart their own course through inspiring discussions and adventurous activities. There are no lectures, only two-way conversations. There are no spectators, only active participants. There are no limits, only opportunities. VISION – Over the past four years, Summit Series has strived to create inspiring events that foster collaboration and creativity. There are no limits, only opportunities. ETHOS – Summit Basecamp is inspired by the concept of the open flame. A flame attracts people, community, conversation…life. It also radiates warmth, light, comfort, and inspiration. At Summit Basecamp you’ll discover these same qualities in the people, the discussions, the performances and activities. It’s a place where you can hit dawn patrol with the first person to ski down Mt. Everest, learn how to blueprint your company’s successful exit in the afternoon, re-imagine the American city over dinner, and dance to the best musical performers in the world when the sun goes down. At Summit Basecamp leaders share knowledge and build relationships that drive global innovation. For more about this year’s Summit Base Camp and the ‘Dome of Discovery’ check out:

GO-Vex

Go-Dome® provides a scratch resistant, dust-repelling primary convex mirror for its Newtonian™ projection system (and for other mirror projection systems). This convex mirror is a precision product with seven optical coatings for even coverage, transparency, protection against yellowing, scratch-protection, and dust repelling. Go-Vex™ Mirrors will project a quality image for many years with proper protection and care. Unlike any other mirror on the market today, the Go-Vex™ is cleanable. See Go-Vex™ Mirror Care for more information. http://www.go-dome.com/care-and-maintanance/go-vex™-mirror-care/ The advantages of Go-Vex™ Mirror projection is cost, image quality and resolution.
Image From Paul Burke Advantages: 1. Go-Vex™ Mirror solutions are less expensive that fisheye solutions. There is no debating this fact. 2. Go-Vex™ Mirrors eliminates chromatic aberration associated with the horizon of fisheye lenses. 3. Go-Vex™ and Newtonian™2 projection solutions are resolution independent with the only limited to the resolution being the projector you have chosen to use. 4. Go-Vex™ and Newtonian™2 projection solutions are infinitely upgradable. You are not stuck with the initial projector you have chosen. As projector technology continues to improve in lumens and resolutions, you are free to change out for a new projector while repurposing the original projector for classroom or other uses without penalty. This makes Go-Vex™ mirror solutions green and better for the environment. 5. More pixels on the dome! A fisheye lens coupled with a high definition projector looses over 50% of the available pixels due to the round nature of the dome master that the fisheye lens must project. A warped image, designed for a mirror captures 84% of the available pixels giving you more pixels on the dome and higher resolution regardless of what ever apples to apples projector comparison you choose to make. The image below clearly illustrates this.

World's First Fulldome 3D Stereo Planetarium Created at Imiloa

Imiloa Hawaii Planetarium From January 19, Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii's planetarium will be the first in the world to have 3D stereoscopic capabilities, revolutionizing the planetarium industry. The new system heightens general audience entertainment experiences, but more importantly becomes a tool for astronomers' research by allowing them to see how celestial bodies are situated and how the universe is changing. Imiloa will be using Sky-Skan's cutting-edge definiti 3D theater technology integrated with Sony SXRD projectors. The new technology allows for a more vibrant picture than traditional systems, making Imiloa's planetarium viewings exceptionally lifelike and engaging on its breathtaking 52-foot full planetarium dome. "This technology changes the role of a planetarium dramatically," said Imiloa Associate Director, Kaiu Kimura. "Instead of just being a tool to teach and entertain, our planetarium is now a resource for scientists. We work closely with the telescopes on Maunakea, the 14,000-foot mountain summit, which sites ten world-class astronomical observatories. This system will now aid their research by bringing their data to life. Imiloa will also be poised to share new research with today's young people and the broader community in exciting ways." To highlight its new capabilities for the general public, Imiloa will also launch its "Dawn of the Space Age" planetarium show in stereoscopic 3D. The show will be playing Tuesday through Sunday daily starting January 19. Visitors will relive history and the excitement of space exploration from the launch of Sputnik through the Apollo lunar landings in 3D. All monthly Sky Tonight star show presentations at Imiloa Center will include tours of the Universe in 3D stereo.

Obscura Digital is one of my personal Favorites
in the experiential marketing industry. When it
comes to excellent presentation and high stakes
advertising there isn't another company on the planet
that can be held more reliable.

The Pioneer Dome, is a brand experience that is very
effective in creating a positive introduction to its
products. I can't wait till more companies are marketing
like Pioneer with a dome.
