PIONEER DOME by OBSCURA DIGITAL

Pioneer from Obscura Digital on Vimeo.

Obscura Digital is one of my personal Favorites
in the experiential marketing industry. When it
comes to excellent presentation and high stakes
advertising there isn't another company on the planet
that can be held more reliable.

The Pioneer Dome, is a brand experience that is very
effective in creating a positive introduction to its
products. I can't wait till more companies are marketing
like Pioneer with a dome.

IMERSA SUMMIT 2012: DENVER COLORADO

Immersive Media Entertainment, Research, Science and Art (IMERSA) announces its first independent Summit of leaders in the Full-Dome entertainment field. To be held February 3-5, 2012 at the Denver Museum of Natural Science (DMNS) in Denver, Colorado, the theme of this meeting is “Learning from our past, visualizing our future: winning solutions for the digital dome.”

The IMERSA Summit 2012 will include Fulldome film screenings, sessions, and panels on the art and science of immersive cinema: business model development, shooting methods and equipment, production work-flow, distribution, exhibition systems and technology, just to name a few areas of discussion. Of course there also will be numerous opportunities to network with fellow participants!

For those new to this field, the IMERSA Summit 2012 has planned an all-day workshop focusing on the “nuts and bolts” of this exciting entertainment medium. Proceeding the Summit on February 3, Fulldome 101 will cover the basics of shooting and producing for the digital dome.

And just when you think it couldn't’ get any better, there is an optional post-Summit ski trip planned for February 6-7 to beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado, a short (and scenic!) drive from Denver.

If you are a member of IMERSA, a Fulldome film vendor, producer or theater manager, a student or instructor in this emerging media field – or simply a cinema aficionado - this Summit is for you!

MIRROR DOME WEBSITE

Dome projection on a budget, also known as MirrorDome

Written by Paul Bourke
October 2003, updated December 2004

This website illustrates a method of projecting onto a dome without the need for a full fisheye lens which are both rare and, those that do exist, only fit to a narrow range of projectors. The approach here uses a mirror to reflect images from the projector onto most of the dome surface.

With this method the mirror used must be a first surfaced mirror.
A $30 dollar security mirror will not work in this case.

1ST STOP FULLDOME WIKI

THE FULLDOME WIKI

Fulldome refers to immersive dome-based video projection environments. The dome, horizontal or tilted, is filled with real-time (interactive) or pre-rendered (linear) computer animations, live capture images, or composited environments.

Although the current technology emerged in the early-to-mid 1990s, fulldome environments have evolved from numerous influences, including immersive art and storytelling, with technological roots in domed architecture, planetariums, multi-projector film environments, flight simulation, and virtual reality.

Initial approaches to moving fulldome imagery used wide-angle lenses, both 35 and 70 mm film, but the expense and ungainly nature of the film medium prevented much progress; furthermore, film formats such as Omnimax did not cover the full two pi steradians of the dome surface, leaving a section of the dome blank (though, due to seating arrangements, that part of the dome was not seen by most viewers). Later approaches to fulldome utilized monochromatic vector graphics systems projected through a fisheye lens. Contemporary configurations employ raster video projectors, either singly or grouped together to cover the dome surface with full-color images and animations.
