Freedom 360 Fulldome Camera

Someone had to do it. The Freedom 360 Go Pro rig is an awesome push for the fulldome medium. It makes it easy for any film producer to compose live_real content intended for an immersive envoronment. Here is a video that explains it all from Matthew Mascheri. Also here is some info from their site "The Freedom 360 allows you to use (your own) six Hero3 cameras (white, silver or black) to record six videos that can be stitched into a full spherical, equi-rectangular 360 video. The original and innovative geometry gives you the freedom to hold the rig in any direction, no blind spot to worry about. You can capture everything around the rig, without obstructions.
Simply insert the Hero3 cameras (6) into the appropriate slot, fix them in place with the numbered mounting braces, mount it to the support you are intending to use (i.e. monopod), and start recording with the wifi remote that comes with the Hero3 black, or purchase it separately with the Hero3 silver/white.
 Recommended accessories
  • Carbon-Fiber monopod (15-20mm tube diameter on the (thin) camera end, light stand, microphone stand, boom pole or similar rigging.
  • Mini tabletop tripod (acts as a stand for the carbon-fiber pole)
  • Super clamp (suspend the carbon-fiber monopod from the ceiling)
  • Counter weights (1.5-2.5kg), depending on your shooting requirements
  • Motion-stabilizing gyro (i.e. http://www.ken-lab.com/what-s-new/new-x-series-3-axis-gyros)
  • 5x conversion kit (if you prefer to shoot 4-around, 1-up)
So i say it's time to put on ur thinking mustache film industry... Who's the next Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone, Kevin Smith, or Guy Richie of Digital Dome Theater?

This is one giant step for fulldome....

Check them out and buy one @ the Freedom 360 Shop

FDDB is an exciting and friendly resource for people who are passionate about fulldome medium.
Their mission is to spread fulldome awareness and help incite fulldome innovation while focusing on content. It's for everyone interested in the fulldome medium: planetarians, science center & museum operators, private companies, independent filmmakers, students…. you name it!
Anyone can join FDDB: it’s a great way to connect with the fulldome community. They are strongly committed to put no limits in front of creativity, passion and quality: institutions, planetariums, private companies, independent filmmakers, students… anyone can add content to FDDB.

This Idea came about because when (back in March 2011) a crazy Italian planetarian attended the Fulldome UK festival in Birmingham, England (which was also his first-ever international event). He was astounded to meet so many people interested in the fulldome medium and was delighted to encounter others who shared his view that domes are now able to transcend astronomy- related topics – inspiring and communicating in whole new ways.
All attendees left Fulldome UK 2011 with one question in mind: “What can each of us do to help grow fulldome interest and fulldome audiences?”
FDDB – The Fulldome Database was this Italian planetarian’s answer and consequently everyone lived happily ever after.

BASECAMP SUMMIT SERIES

This was an awesome project i worked on for Discovery Channel and Elevate In Feb 2012 at Lake Tahoe, CA. One of my Favorite gigs to date. Basically because the cool kids got to take over the dome... lol Summit Series was proud to announce Summit Basecamp. Inspiration at altitude. A three day TED-meets-Burning-Man summer camp for grownups in the mountains of Lake Tahoe: Summit Basecamp. To call Summit Series events "conferences" would be to do them a tremendous injustice. They bring together mostly under-35-year-old movers and shakers -- from artists like filmmaker Jonathan Segal; to entrepreneurs like Yes To founder Ido Leffler; to changemakers like Lulan Artisans visionary Eve Blossom.

Over the past four years, Summit Series has strived to create inspiring events that foster collaboration and creativity. This year, deep in the snow covered mountains around Lake Tahoe, 650 leaders in business, philanthropy, science, technology and the arts will convene for four days. Attendees will chart their own course through inspiring discussions and adventurous activities. There are no lectures, only two-way conversations. There are no spectators, only active participants. There are no limits, only opportunities. VISION – Over the past four years, Summit Series has strived to create inspiring events that foster collaboration and creativity. It also radiates warmth, light, comfort, and inspiration. At Summit Basecamp you’ll discover these same qualities in the people, the discussions, the performances and activities. It’s a place where you can hit dawn patrol with the first person to ski down Mt. Everest, learn how to blueprint your company’s successful exit in the afternoon, re-imagine the American city over dinner, and dance to the best musical performers in the world when the sun goes down. At Summit Basecamp leaders share knowledge and build relationships that drive global innovation. For more about this year’s Summit Base Camp and the ‘Dome of Discovery’ check out:
